This is a very simple system, which will work on any vehicle. Essentially all we are doing is running a new circuit to power up anything we want (in this case XB Angel Eyes). The idea here, is that we run power directly from the battery (
or even better, from the constant 12 feeding the fuse box
) and hooking that directly up to the accessories. The accessories can be grounded into the existing ground wires near it, or given their own grounds direct to the chassis.
A few common concerns I hear about is "Will power be running all the time? Will this drain my battery? How will they turn off?" And the answers to that are No, No, and With the key out. A relay is like a doorway for electricity to pass through, that will only open up if it gets a signal. If there is no signal, the door stays shut, and no voltage passes through it. The key turning in the ignition is the signal for the door to open. Put the key in, nothing happens, turn the key, and the ignition relay inside the fuse box will all the sudden click open, supplying voltage out of it to power other parts of the car, such as the starter. This new Wire Harness isn't actually powering anything with that voltage, its simply triggered by it, or put another way, its getting the signal for the door to open in the Wire Harness Relay.
There is nothing special about this system, its simply making use of 4 pins on a standard Bosch style relay. Why it is not more common I have no idea, but it safely and simply powers up anything you want to come on, be it LEDs, HIDs, Radiator Fans, etc.

More info! I need cranking 12v power or "true ignition" for Air lift, how would I tap into my fuel pump relay?

Ummmmm, I wouldn't use those wiring techniques on a car you like to keep running well. please put your wiring bundles in some split loom plastic wiring material, use more wire and route it around without shoving it under fan shrouds, get a label maker and put a label on that split loom describing what it does in case a mechanic is trying to figure out what is going on. don't shove the bare wire under the tab on the relay, you can by a tap kit and find a connection in the fuse box that is unused but live when the switch is in the run position, takes a few minutes with a volt meter and checking the unused fuse spots in the box. or follow that wire from the relay and use a tap splice connector.

Nice video! I am hoping you may be able to make a recomendation for me. I want to do my Baja lights the same way. I will havce a switch as well. I see how to use this video to make this all happen.

That being said, As with most older jeeps the wiring under the dash is a complete mess from a previous owner. I am having enough issues that I am thinking of the same setup you have here for my stereo and for my ac adapter (cig lighter). They are currently tapped into the heater power but, for some crazy reason, the heater has to be on for them to work So i I replicate the setup I may be able to do them the same way.

I am worried about running three wires under the ignition relay?

Is there a better way to utilize the same method?

    Thanks!

I'm not sure exactly what you mean when you say "ignition activated". Does that mean simply the key has to be in the run position or is it set to be active only when the engine is running?

Thanks for the info. I'm switching to electric cooling fans on my 02 Tahoe. I would've figured it out just would'a took a little longer. HA.
